Gene, as he was known by his family and friends, was born Sept. 23, 1927 in Conover, N.C. to Claude Eugene, Sr. and Mamie Shook Wallace.
He married Elma Harvey July 14, 1947 in Salt Lake City, after which they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and eternity. Gene served in the Army Air Corps as a tail gunner and cook. Most of his military term was served in Japan where he helped build an airport.
He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He loved the gospel and spent many years serving his Father in Heaven in the Young Men's Presidency and teaching in Primary.
In his later years, he loved playing bass guitar and singing with the Old Time Fiddlers.
He is survived by his wife, Elma, of 62 years, sons, David E. (Edna) Wallace, Ronald (Pamela) Wallace, of Tridell; Orlan (Kirstan) Wallace, of Grand Junction, Colo.; daughters, Patricia (Ronald) Stump, and Jeannie O'Driscoll, all of Tridell; Diana (Eugene) Williams and Annette (Cory) Harris, both of Vernal; Becky Wallace, of Salt Lake City, 30 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by sisters, Martha Sigmon, Flossie Hatley and his brother Ezra Wallace, all of Conover, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Wallace, 4 grandchildren and a son-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 30, at the Tridell Ward Chapel in Tridell, at 11 a.m., with a viewing the morning of service at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in the Tridell Cemetery under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary. Military Honors will be provided by the Roosevelt American Legion and the National Guard.
