ERNEST EDWARD ZUENDEL
7-24-1859 -- 5-19-1912
Death came suddenly to Ernest E. Zuendel last Sabbath afternoon, May 19th, while stopping at the boarding house of Mrs. Johnson of Endeavor. He had been employed in assisting mason Charles W. Smith in doing some work on the premises of N. P. Wheeler Jr., during the week and was seized with illness that terminated in a stroke of apoplexy from which he did not regain consciousness, death ensued at 2:30 as above stated.
The deceased was the son of Henry A. and Anna Christina Zuendel and was born on the old homestead, Starr post office, July 24th, 1859, where he grew to manhood.
On May 2nd, 1889, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Ledebur, who, with 5 sons and 4 daughters survive, namely; Roy, Rex, Ray, Walter, Chester, Mary Alice, Effie, Alta and Helen. Besides these he is also survived by his mother and the following brothers and sisters: George, Henry, Conrad, John, Elizabeth and Mary Zuendel, all residing in the community of German Hill. In his younger days he fitted himself for school teaching which he followed a number of years, but gave up the profession to engage in saw mill work and farming, in which latter he had been engaged for several years past, residing on the farm of the late Adam Zuendel, near Starr, at the time of his death. Residing at Endeavor when the Presbyterian society was organized there he united with that church.
Funeral services in his memory were held yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. F. Scherer of Endeavor, followed by interment in the Zuendel cemetery, within the sight of his birthplace.
In this connection his family desire to express thanks who gave them aid and sympathy, especially to the people of East Hickory and Endeavor for great kindness shown in the last illness of the deceased.
