Samuel Allebaugh was the son and fourth child of Christian Allebaugh and Catherine Showalter of Rockingham County, Virginia where Samuel was raised. The Allebaugh family were early Mennonite settlers in the Broadway, Rockingham County, area. Samuel was a trained as a hardworking blacksmith. Samuel married Elizabeth Weibel and they had eight children.
Their children were Josiah, James, Andrew, William, Nancy, Elizabeth, Rebbecca, and Elmira. Samuel moved from Rockingham Co. to Fayette County, Pennsylvania in about 1810 where remained for the most of his life, except for a short period in Fairfield County, Ohio in 1836-1837 near his older brother David.
