The 1870 US Census of Wadesborough, Calloway Co., KY enumerated the household of 37 Y/O Bryant Carroll Holland, a farmer born in Kentucky, and his 35 Y/O wife, Mary Ann (Penny) Holland, born in Tennessee. Living in the household were their children: 10 Y/O Luvenia Holland; 9 Y/O Minnie A. Holland; 6 Y/O James P. Holland; 4 Y/O Julia L. Holland and 1 Y/O Effie Bryant Holland.

The 1880 US Census of Martins Store, Weakley Co., Tennessee enumerated the household of 47 Y/O Bryant Carroll Holland, a tobacco trader born in KY, and his 45 Y/O wife, Mary "May" Ann (Penny) Holland born in TN. Also in the household were their children: 16 Y/O James P. Holland; 13 Y/O Julia L. Holland and 11 Y/O Effie Bryant Holland.

Effie Bryant Holland married Thomas Folkerth, who was born on 26 Dec 1868 in Ohio, in 1900 probably in Weakley Co. Tennessee. Thomas was a lumber dealer in Martin, Weakley Co., TN. Their son, Jesse Holland Folkerth, was born in Martin, Weakley Co., TN on 07 Dec 1903. Effie's husband, Thomas Folkerth, died in a Nashville, TN Infirmary after a three day stay on 27 Feb 1904 according to his death certificate. Interestingly, Thomas was buried in the Yellow Fever Cemetery in Martin, Weakley Co., TN although his death certificate doesn't mention Yellow Fever as cause of his death. The causes of his death were listed on his death certificate as stomach cancer, Bright's Disease (kidney) and heart disease.

The 1910 US Census of the 2nd Civil District, Weakley Co., TN enumerated the household of 42 Y/O widowed Effie Bryant (Holland) Folkerth and her 6 Y/O son, Jesse Holland Folkerth.

The 1920 US Census of the 2nd Civil District, Weakley Co., TN enumerated the household of 51 Y/O widowed Effie Bryant (Holland) Folkerth and her 16 Y/O son, Jesse Holland Folkerth.

For some reason, Ellie and her son, Jesse, moved to Nashville in 1923/24 as the 1924 Nashville, TN City Directory lists Effie Folkerth as a resident and widow of Thomas Folkerth. Also living in her household was her son, Jesse Holland Folkerth, listed as a "student". He subsequently finished 4 years of college.

During this period of time, Jessie had changed residences in Birmingham several times. His mother lived in his household until her death on 22 Jan 1965.
