This year 2017 - our YDNA was done for our Almand family.
Our name is not ALMAND/ALMOND or any variations of this name.
We can only trace (with proofs) our family line back to Thomas Almand, Sr. born 1762 who married Annice Ussery.
Familytree DNA told me that for some reason Irish people changed their names - a lot! There are eight pages of names matching our YDNA. But only four (4) names of Almand variations. At this point we may never find the answer to this. Contact me if you are interested in these YDNA results. [email protected]

John Walker Almand was one of the large family of Henry Pryor Almand, Sr. John married Sallie Elizabeth Bacon, daughter of Nix Bacon, on 16 July 1863 in Newton County, Georgia. The couple had five children, Emma, Eddie, Henry P., Zillie, and David M.

When the Civil War began, John enlisted on June 26, 1861, as a private in Co. B., 18th Regiment Georgia Infantry, the "Newton Rifles." He was wounded at Cold Harbor, Virginia, on 27 June 1862; at Knoxville, Tennessee, on 29 November 1863; and at Spotsylvania Virginia, on 10 May 1864.

JNO WALKER ALMAND PASSES TO BEYOND

Died Last Night and Interment at E. View This Afternoon

Friday evening between 8 and 9 o'clock, Mr. John Walker Almand, age 70 years, answered the summons of his Master and his spirit went out across the tide to take up its abode in the Land of Rest where pain and suffering is known no more forever. Mr. Almand with rare fortitude bore his physical afflictions during the many years and during these years the love and devotion of his wife was beautiful to behold. The deceased is survived by his wife, four daughters and one son. The funeral will be this afternoon at 4 o'clock and interment at E. View. To those whose hearts were made sad we extend sympathy.
