Martha "May" Slater, 73, of Sissonville passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus in Hubbard Hospice House on March 28, 2010 after a long battle with lung cancer.
May was born August 6, 1936 in Charleston and was the daughter of the late George and Teeny Shively Bostic.

May attended Kanawha County Schools and was a 22 year employee of the Kanawha County Board of Education. May enjoyed perusing yard sales and shopping at Goodwill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Willie Slater.

Left to cherish her memory are children, James "Willie" Slater, Tammy Slater, Robin Slater, Kimberly Slater and her husband, Leo Florio, all of Sissonville and Charmin Goldizen of Liberty; sisters, Letha Crowder of Spencer and Georgie Haynes of Elkview; brothers, Herbert Bostic and his wife, Ollie, of Griffithsville, Corbert Bostic and his wife, Wanda, of Gay and Bob Bostic and his wife, Lilla, of Kenna; grandchildren, Steven Slater of Liberty and Savannah Slater of Cross Lanes; great grandchildren, Ethan Shaffer of Charleston and Zayden Westfall of Sissonville.

The Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 31 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Pastor Richard Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller Cemetery, Grapevine Road, Sissonville.

A gathering of family and friends will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Hubbard Hospice House and the staff of David Lee Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.
