Cora Bessie Gunlock was born in Winston, MO. Her father was Casper Gunlock II. Her brothers were Harry Alfred, Jasper Whitten, Clemmon Eli, and she had a sister Mary J. who may have died in infancy.

Bessie's mother was Charity Rosetta Beeson, of Kansas.

Her son Robert informed her death certificate and gave the month of October as her birth month, however that is an error, as a Neosho newspaper noted the celebration of her 79th birthday on September 29th in 1962.

Bessie is buried beside "Samp", whom she married in Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri, on September 9, 1902, in the wedding chapel of the Harrington Hotel.
