Jo Ann Belt Witt Biography

Jo Ann Belt was born on January 23, 1894, the daughter of James Henry Belt (1864-1919) and Emma Catherine Forbes Belt (1872-1966). James Henry and Emma Belt had four children, Ruby (b. 1890), Jo Ann (b. 1894), Molly (b. circa 1903), and James Jackson (1908-1979).

She married Clarence Cleo (C.C.) Witt in 1917. C.C. was born on November 27, 1892 in Parsons, Labette County, Kansas. He was the son of Allen Berry Witt (1848-1926) and Martha Johnson Witt (1850-1917), both originally from Kentucky.

They had two sons, (Clarence) William Witt (born on August 23, 1918 in Fort Smith, Arkansas; died on April 26, 1951 in Kansas) and James Allen Witt (born July 19, 1920; died April 19, 1921 in Fort Smith).

C.C. served his country in World War I as a captain in the U.S. Army. He was in Europe when his son (Clarence) William Witt was born in 1918.

After C.C. returned from Europe, he became the district manager for the Parkersburg Rig and Reel Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1919 to 1957. They were actively involved with the Methodist church and their community.

The company transferred C.C. and Jo Ann to Wichita, Kansas in 1959, and subsequently promoted him to the main office at Parkersburg, West Virginia.

C.C. died on June 11, 1965 in Wichita. His wife, Jo Ann, returned to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she lived with her brother James Jackson (Jack) Belt. After Jack's death on January 16, 1979, Jo Ann relocated to Florida in 1980 to be closer to her daughter-in-law Mary Ben (Morris) Witt and her family.

Jo Ann died on January 12, 1982 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
