He was a member of the Army National Guard, was employed by the Martinsburg "Journal" newspaper, and retired from Berkeley County Board of Education. After his retirement, he volunteered his time to the schools. He had a passion for helping the youth of Berkeley County and was the former Executive Director for the Martinsburg Berkeley Co Boys and Girls Club 1969-1994, former Player/Manager of the Martinsburg fast-pitch Softball League, and served as an umpire and referee in the local area. He was also a coach for the Martinsburg Little League. He was an outstanding player in both baseball and fast-pitch softball. He played on local teams earning many awards and championships. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mike had many friends and acquaintances of all walks of life.

He was the son of the late John Brady and Mary Catherine Cook Allen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Allen.

He is survived by two sons, Stephen Scott Allen and wife, Melissa, and Jeffrey Todd Allen and wife, Christy, both of Martinsburg; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Kidwell, Jennifer, Jessica, Nick, Tayler, Cameron, and Ashton Allen; and three brothers, Franklin "Bill" Allen of Martinsburg, John "Johnny" Allen of Fredericksburg, VA, and Robert "Bob" Allen of Williamsport, MD.
