Zelma M. Brockway

(July 24, 1909 - April 4, 2011)

Zelma M. Brockway was born July 24, 1909 in Cloud County, Kansas to Charles and Dolkins "Dolly" (Wisbey) Bellows. Zelma went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 4, 2011 in Salina. She was 101 years and eight months old. Zelma grew up in the Cloud and Ottawa County areas and she was a graduate of Delphos High School. After graduation she met Archie E. Brockway and they were married January 18, 1930. They continued to live in this area for a number of years. Later they moved back to the Barnard community and continued farming and raising their family. Later in their lives they moved to Bennington and operated "Mom's Café". When the café was sold she continued to work at Larry's Pharmacy. When her health failed she moved to Salina. Zelma was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Salina. She was preceded in death by her husband Archie on October 6, 1974; and five siblings, Alvin Bellows, Chrissy Anderson, Mildred Pilcher, Glenola Tasker, and Dorothy Boone. Survivors include her four children, Gary Brockway and his wife Marcia of Salina, Joyce Earley of Edwardsville, Charles Brockway and his wife Jolene of Barnard, and Laverne Brockway and his wife Joan of Salina; 18 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 40 great-great grandchildren; and one great-great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be at 10 A.M., Friday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis with Pastor Kaye Metzler officiating. Burial will be in the Saltville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barnard Community Center.
