John (Jan) Block, the son of Maarten De Blok and Maria Visser, was born in Ouddorp, Overflakee, Zuid-Holland. He immigrated to the United States, arriving on April 24, 1854 with his brother Aart and sister Jannette. John married Lena Van Hoven around 1859. John & Lena had two children; John and Mary Jane.
