Regarding her maiden name:
Eliza's mother is found as Brannon, Branam, and everything in between after Leroy Brannon's death.
Eliza's descendants generally use the "Brannon" spelling for her as that seems to have been period correct.
The name wasn't standardized to "Branon" until Eliza's brother, Lee's family used that particular spelling. Interestingly, Lee himself was unable to write and had to sign his 'X' on the administrator's bond upon his mother's death.
Her brother William joined the war as a teenager and his name was spelled completely different because of his military record. He likely had no idea how to spell it and someone wrote it down with a guess or perhaps he altered it on purpose since he was actually much younger than he was claiming to be.
