Robert Finley Joyce Sr., 80, died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at his home.

He was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Peru, Neb., son of James Henry and Ruth Helen Alfultis Joyce. He and Jeanette DuBois were married Dec. 3, 1944.

Joyce owned and operated a trucking business in Cape Girardeau from 1950 to 1968, and retired in 1984 from ABF Co. in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Teamsters Local 574.

He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 24, 1942, to Nov. 9, 1944.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Joyce II of Jackson; five daughters, Karen Mattingly and Kathy Rodgers of Jackson, Rita Johnson of Wildwood, Mo., Laura Hulcy of Cape Girardeau, and Melissa Haring of St. Peters, Mo.

Also surviving is a brother, Thomas Joyce of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Amanda Lorberg of Jackson, Esther Bivins of Tallahassee, Fla., Mary Schwab of Cape Girardeau; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Msgr. Edward Eftink officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
