Elder Selba Khomer Beaty Sr., who served as a Primitive Baptist minister for 51 years, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, in a hospital in Murfreesboro Tenn. He was 72. Mr. Beaty was a graduate of Northeast Community College, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, having serving in World War II and Korea, and in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He was a member of the 170th Helicopter Association. He taught computer classes at Northeast College for 10 years and was a member of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church. Most recently he had served as pastor of Mountain View Primitive Baptist in Rainsville Ala. He was preceded in death by a brother, Loma B. Beaty. Survivors include his wife, Betty E. Beaty; sons, Selba Beaty Jr., Elkmont Ala., Nicholas Beaty, Augusta Ga., and John Paul, Daniel and Alex Beaty, all of Ider; daughters, Venus Filmore, Valley Head Ala., Beth Beaty, Lexington Ky., and Janiece Beaty, Ardmore Ala.; sisters, Murial, Johnson Georgia, and Patricia Blevins, Huntsville Texas. Funeral: Saturday at 2 p.m. CST, Corner Stone Chapel with elder Herbert Chapman officiating. Burial in Mountain Home Cemetery in Henagar Ala., with full military services. Visitation was Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon until time of service at the funeral home.
