Elizabeth GNANN was born about December of 1806 in Effingham County to Jonathan GNANN & his wife Elizabeth PERTHERO. In 1825 in Effingham County, Elizabeth married Daniel James MCKENZIE Sr. (a blacksmith and wheelwright of St. Peters Parish, South Carolina, 1797-1872, buried in Lot 300 of Laurel Grove Cemetery, LGC, ELCA funeral). They were the parents of eleven children, born about 1827-1848, and all christened at the German Lutheran Church in Savannah (today, the Evangelcial Lutheran Church of the Ascension, ELCA):

• John MCKENZIE (born about 1827, died 1831, ELCA funeral),
• Daniel James MCKENZIE Jr. (born 1830),
• Sarah Ann C. MCKENZIE (born 1831-1832, died 1835, ELCA funeral),
• James Jefferson MCKENZIE (born 1834 in Savannah, a blacksmith, died 1881, ELCA funeral, also buried in LGC Lot 1850),
• Adeline Amelia MCKENZIE "Ada" or "Addie" (1836-1909, ELCA funeral, also buried in LGC Lot 1850, married Richard R. MCKENZIE in 1864 in Chatham County by the ELCA pastor),
• Laura Ellen MCKENZIE (born 1838 in Savannah, died 1875, ELCA funeral, buried in LGC Section A, in 1859 in Chatham County she married James DANIELS Sr. from France, who died in 1867)
• Mary Virginia MCKENZIE (born 1840),
William Aldrich MCKENZIE (1842-1857, buried in Jerusalem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Ebenezer, Effingham County).
• Julia Ann MCKENZIE (born February of 1844 in Savannah, died in October of the same year, ELCA funeral),
• Caroline Josephine MCKENZIE (born 1845 in Savannah, died in 1882, ELCA funeral, also buried in LGC Lot 1850), and
Anna Elizabeth MCKENZIE, "Annie" (born 1848 in Savannah, died 1935, buried in Bonaventure Cemetery Lot K-174). Anna first married George J. SMITH in 1873 in Chatham County (1848-1878, also buried in LGC Lot 1850). Anna married secondly George A. UPCHURCH Sr. of North Carolina in 1882 in Chatham County by the ELCA pastor - he died in 1892 in Screven County.

Savannah Morning News, issue of 15 October, 1882: 4/5 - McKenzie. The relatives, friends and acquaintance of Mrs. Elizabeth McKenzie and her family, and the members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension, are invited to attend the funeral services of Mrs. E. McKenzie, at the church, at 11 o'clock this morning.

Abstract from Laurel Grove Cemetery Keepers Book: Elizabeth MCKENZIE died the 24th of October, 1882, and was buried on the 26th in Lot 1850 [ELCA funeral]. She was a native of Georgia, aged 76 years, and was a resident of Joachim Street.

Note: The three young children which Daniel J. MCKENZIE & Elizabeth GNANN are known to have lost in 1831, 1835 & 1844 were included in ELCA interment records and were likely buried in the Old City Burying Ground (today Colonial Park Cemetery), but were not included in the Savannah Death Register. The children born in 1830 and 1840 also likely died young, but were not included in either record. Additionally, LGC records show no removal of MCKENZIE burials to LGC.
