Born in New York State, son of Sheldon and Hannah Beebe.

Was residing in Livingston County, MI when he enlisted as a Private in the Union Army on September 19, 1861 at Osceola, MI. Mustered into Company I, 3rd Michigan Cavalry on October 3, 1861. Promoted to Sergeant upon re-enlistment on January 27, 1864. Mustered out of Federal Service on October 5, 1865 at New Orleans, LA.

Married Julia Elizabeth Kirk in 1869 and they had two children: Joseph and Bertha.
