Under heading, "Kalida Served as Original Center of Putnam County", Lima News (1958) recounts that in 1834, the governor of Ohio appointed Silas McClish, William Cochran and Henry Morris as associate judges of the court of common pleas for Putnam County. They were largely responsible for organizing the county, meeting first at the home of Abraham Sarber in Kalida on May 8, 1834.
