Wimbley Donald "Bill" Wells, 80, died March 5, 2007, in Flagler Hospital. He was born in Hastings, Fla., on Dec.10, 1926 to Wimbley H. and Daisy Stoddard Wells. He moved to St. Augustine as a child and remained a lifelong resident.
Mr. Wells was at various times an insurance salesman, publisher of an early TV News Magazine in St. Augustine, and a welder for Fruehauf Corp. at the Jacksonville Shipyards, retiring in 1989.

He was a life member of Elks Lodge No. 820, member of the Moose Lodge, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the FEC Railway Society.
He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and friends. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand to a neighbor. He could always "fix it." He loved to dance and had a great sense of humor. He holds a special place in the hearts of his many friends and loved ones and he will be missed.

Survivors: Loyce Manning Wells, his devoted wife of 53 years; son, David (Krystie) of Jacksonville; daughter, Donna Kay (Donald) Goard of Bonita Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Aaron Stiner, Kingston, Ontario, Canada; Isaak Wimbley Wells, Rebecca Wells, Rachael Goard, all of Bonita Springs; two sisters, Genevieve Davis and Helen "Pat" Harvey; one brother Reginald L.Wells, all of St. Augustine; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers R.D. and Ben Wells.

There will be a Memorial Service at Craig Funeral Home and Crematory at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2007 with Rev. Clarence Blalock, pastor of McDowell Baptist Church, officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing may make a donation in his memory to Rodeheaver Boys Ranch, 380 Boys Ranch Road, Palatka, FL 32177.

Married Loyce Manning Jan 24, 1954 in St. Augustine, FL. Although they sent no invites out, just a notice in the paper, there was standing room only at the wedding. It was the same at his funeral.
Throughout his life, Bill Wells would be known as a man of honor, integrity and compassion. His word was his bond and he sealed many a deal with a smile and a handshake. He would tell me that he tried "to live everyday so that when a new day dawns, I have no regrets about yesterday". He laughed so hard at his own jokes he could hardly get the punch line out. He loved to read and instilled in me a love of books that has passed to his grandchildren. He and Mom loved to dance to Moon River and his favorite dessert was cheesecake (the Lindy's one). Shrimp scampi was at top of his list of foods and his appreciation of my cooking led me to become professionally trained. Some of his favorite saying to us as kids: "Hold what you got" whenever he turned a corner in the car; "We're gone like Moody's Goose" Who Moody was and why he had a goose I guess we will never know. "Been better, seen worse" when asked how he was and my favorite: "Ain't no atheist in a foxhole". I thank God everyday that I was blessed to have this wonderful human being as my father and my friend. All my love Daddy until we meet again. Families are forever.
