Arthur served as a Machinist's Mate 2nd Class, U.S.S. Shubrick (D.D. 639), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware prior to the war.

The Shubrick, while off Palermo, Italy, was hit amidships by a 500-pound (230 kg) bomb which caused flooding of two main machinery spaces and left the ship without power. Nine were killed and 20 wounded in the attack.

Arthur and was "Killed In Action" in this attack during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He, and many others, were buried in the temporary American cemetery at Palermo in plot-grave A-2-34, date of burial was the following day. After the war his remains were repatriated and buried in this cemetery.

Son of Ward Brangs and Etta Burtt Brangs.

Husband of Kathryn Deborah Brangs who at one time lived at 704 Jackson St., Wilmington, DE.
