Betty J. Murphy, 86, of 20 Douglas Court Canton, IL passed away Saturday March 27, 2010 at 4:04am at the Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. She was born March 24, 1924 in Canton to Emery C. and Ada P. (Hickman) Peterson. She married Thomas W. Murphy February 12, 1949 in Canton. He preceded her in death October 31, 1993. She is survived by one daughter, Susan J. Phillips of Canton, one son, Thomas M. Murphy of St. Petersburg, FL, one sister, Fonda A. Johnson of Polo, IL, seven grandchildren; Tara, Eric, Mindy, Jennifer, Kendra, Brittany, and Madison, three great-grandchildren and Austin, Bradley and Parker. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; Gilbert, Gerald, Lyle and Charles, one sister, Mildred and one grandson, Jason M. Phillips. She attended high school in Canton, graduating in 1942. She was then employed by the International Harvester Company in Canton for 40 years, retiring in June 1984. She was of the Methodist faith. Funeral service will be Thursday April 1 at 11:00am at the Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7:00pm. Pastor Rick Atchley will be officiating.
