Mark Anthony Gray, 46, DeKalb, Ill., died at home Saturday, March 20, 2010, after a protracted fight with throat cancer.
Born in Kankakee, the son of Jimmy and Patricia (Pat) Gray, Mark is survived by his mother, four brothers, Kevin J., David R. (Karen), Roger A. (Madonna), Joseph A. (Donna); his life partner, Charles (Chuck) E. Schumann Jr.; his dog, Sparky; his best friend, Tony Emling; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, and his dog, Mia.
Mark and Chuck shared a home in DeKalb, where Mark's passion was caring for his dogs, Mia and Sparky, his life partner, Chuck, and his beautiful garden. Mark was an artist and spent his leisure working with ceramics.
A Catholic Service at St. Margaret Mary Church in Herscher will be held April 10, with visitation at 10 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m. Reception information will be available at the Mass. An earth-centered ceremony and celebration will be held April 16 at his home in DeKalb; the ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. with a celebration of his life after.
