George W. Adkins, 69, a life long resident of this area, died in Thomas Nursing Home at 6:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, after a lengthy illness.
A farmer in the Loco community throughout his adult life, he lived on the farm where his parents, the late George. Thomas and Elizabeth Coleman Adkins settled in the early years of the community. He left only when his health failed and he moved into Wellington.
He was born at Loco March 7, 1899.
A community leader, Mr. Adkins participated in the many affairs centered there over a long period of years. He was interested in the development of the schools and the churches and worked for the welfare of the area as a whole.
He was married to Miss Emma Calcote March 10, 1920 in Wellington.
Surviving Mr. Adkins are his wife, Mrs. Emma Adkins of Wellington; a daughter, Mrs. John Wolf of Wellington; a brother, M. L. Adkins of Amarillo, and four grandchildren.
