John W. Bowman an aged retired farmer of Port Republic, died at 5 o'clock yesterday morning. He had been in bad health all summer but seriously ill only about two weeks.
Mr. Bowman was eighty one years, eleven months and twelve days old. He was twice married. The first wife was Miss Mary Pickering [Petry] and his second wife was Miss Mary Johnson. Both are now dead.
For many years Mr. Bowman had been a member of the Progressive Brethren Church. He was highly respected and had many friends by whom his death will be regretted.
Mr. Bowman is survived by four sons, Henry Bowman, of Fairfax County; Jacob Bowman, of Good s Mill; Isaac Bowman, of Philadelphia; John S. Bowman, of Roanoke, and one daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Sanger, of Free Union Va. He is also survive by two brothers, Samuel Bowman, of Daphna, and Isaac Bowman, of Harrisonburg, and one sister, Mrs. Susanna Hinegardner of Nokesville , Va.
The funeral will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock at the Mount Olive Church. Services will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. L. A. Clifford, assisted by Rev. Samuel Pence.
