Nancy Jean Yandell, 61, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Providence Alaska Medical Center, surrounded by family members. Services were held in Sterling and Ketchikan. In the spring, she will be interred in Kelso, Wash., with her father and sister. Born Aug. 26, 1943, in Eugene, Ore., she moved to Alaska in 1964. She first lived in Seldovia, then Anchorage, Ketchikan and places in between. Most recently she had been living in Sterling, working at Fred Meyer. Her family wrote: "She was a constant source of strength and humor to her family and friends. She had an independent nature. She always worked hard, but she was kind and sensitive, a poet in her actions and in her verse. She is deeply missed." Mrs. Yandell is survived by her husband, Ron Yandell; mother, Margery Carroll; brother, Frank Ramsdell; sister, Carroll Ramsdell; sons, Jason and Jacob Preston, Allen Janz, Brian and Tim Yandell; and daughter, Sonya Skan; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, her little dog, Rocky, whom she loved a lot.
