The Attached Photo C-1880 is Courtesy of the Wild West Museum Virginia City NV who let me copy it for Find a grave
There is no Photographer on the back but there is an old Inked ID that says " J. Scott killed in the mines"
Intresting Note that there are TWO John Scotts Buried in this Cemetery, both Born in Canada. I wonder if they were some how Related As Both Died while Mining, And are now buried about 30 Feet from each other. The two color photos were taken in 1998 to show you what the Gold Hill Nevada City Cemetery Looks Like Today.∼This is clearly the same person as John Scott, only Mr. Rickards misread his photograph and had given this one a death date of 3 June instead of 5 June, and an age of 23 instead of 33, leading to him making up a birthdate in 1862 instead of 1852 for this one versus the other one, which was probably been based on the (more accurate) 1950's DAR transcriptions (as there is no gravestone photo there):
SCOTT, John S. b. about 1852 d. 6/5/1885,
Born in: Coaticook, Canada,
Buried in Gold Hill Cemetery, plot number: 36.
In the 1880 census, Mr. Scott lives in Gold Hill, Storey county, Nevada. He is 29 years old, single, works in the mine, was born in Canada with both parents born in Ireland. He lives on American Flat Road, rooming with a married couple, Charles and Olive Smith, along with a fireman in the mine, James Harwell.
[Rickards fiction: John S. Scott Was Born in North Coaticook Quebec Canada on May 22 1862 Came to Nevada (Date unknown) To work in the Mines around Gold Hill & Virginia City NV. And Died in Gold Hill Nevada June 3rd 1885 at Age 23 of a Fall down a Mine shaft, And that is all I could Find out about him for now, But I shall Keep Looking.
The Above Information came from his Tomb Stone and Death Records kept at the State Arcives The Attached Photo C-1879 is Courtesy of the Edwards Family Album of Virginia City NV 1862-1911 which is now in the State Museum in Carson City Nevada, It has wiitten in pencil under the photo in the Album " John Scott Killed at the Knickerbocker Shaft June 3 1885" I take it that John was a Family Friend Interesting Note that there is TWO! John Scott's Buried in this Cemetery, And both were born in Canada and both Died while mining. I wonder if they were some how related as they are buried about 30 feet from each other, Strange but true!! The Two Color Photos were taken in 1998 to show you what The Gold Hill Nevada City Cemetery Looks Like today.
The Photo of his Vandlised Grave Stone was taken in Sept. 2001. It is the wish of this writer that the ghost of John haunts the dreamds of the Dastards who knocked over his stone.]
