Ben Benson (Bernth Borresen) was born 20 Jul 1875 in Whitehall, WI to immigrant Norwegian parents, Tor Borresen Bomoen (Benson) and Anne Larsdatter Kolstadmoen. His parents were from the Oppland County of Norway near Ringebu.

He was married to a Norwegian immigrant, Alice Omtvedt on 20 Apr 1901. The couple were the parents of two daughters, Gena Benson Anderson Bercier and Thea Benson Bakken Kallock and an infant baby. The couple also raised a foster daughter, Ellen Evenson Brown and their grandson, Ellsworth Lloyd Bakken (Benson) through their childhood and early adulthood.

His siblings included another boy born to Tom and Anne in Norway. He died several months after birth. His brother, Martin Benson, was also born in Norway and came over to WI with his parents. Two sisters were also in the family, Mathilda Benson was married to George Hanson and lived all of her life near the Oberon area and Christine Benson Tweten who was married to Gust Tweten and lived near Oberon also.

He was a farmer who not only farmed with his father in WI but also in ND when they came west to homestead. Ben was 14 years old when they arrived in ND. Martin homesteaded as did Tom. But Ben moved over to Balfour and Karlsruhe, ND where he homesteaded with his wife, Alice, and her sister Helen and her husband, Sam Haukom. He later came back to Oberon after he had proved up his claim and farmed and lived there the remainder of his life. They built up a farmstead west of his parents farmstead.

His funeral services were conducted from the Antelope Valley Lutheran Church on 21 Sep 1953 at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery. His widow and children survive.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Tom and Anne Benson, brothers and one sister Mathilda Benson Hanson.
