Frederick Post - February 6, 1963

Dr. Byron D. White, one of Frederick's leading obstetricians, died at the Frederick Memorial
Hospital Tuesday at 9:55 a.m. following a lingering illness. He had been admitted to the hospital on Monday at 10:40 a.m. Death was attributed to a heart condition. He would have been 68 years of age on Sunday.

He was one of the driving forces behind the improvement of the hospital services here, and for many years served as head of the obstetrics department at the hospital. In 1955 he was named Chief of the Medical Staff at Frederick Memorial. He contributed generously to the hospital, but preferred to remain out of the limelight He instituted the Memorial Fund of
the Hospital.

Failing health for the past few years forced him to limit his work load in recent months He was in partnership with Dr. Harry Gray and Dr. G. R. Brinkley.

A native of Poolesville, he graduated from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa. in 1916 and was a fellow of the American College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. White served overseas in he Army Medical Corps during World War I. After his discharge he went to Pittsburgh, Pa, where worked in Southside Hospital as physician and obstetrician.

In 1940 he returned to his native Poolesville contemplating retirement. He then began practicing obstetrics in Frederick hoping to work on a limited scale. His practice soon became too large for even a full-time doctor, and he joined with associates.

He attended the First Baptist church, this city.

He was a member of the Board of Associates of Hood College, Frederick Chamber of Commerce,
Rotary Club of Frederick, Catoctin Country Clubs, the Elk and the Frederick County Medical Association.

Born in Poolesville on February 10, 1895, he was a son of the late Harvey Jones White and Ida Dyson White.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Matilda White, and one sister, Mrs. Kathryn White Hays, Clearwater, Fla.

The body is at the funeral home. 106 East Church street, where friends may call after 7
this evening. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.

The family requests, if desired, donations be made to the Memorial Fund at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
