John a Torrenga died at the family home on Rural Route 10 Sunday morning, following several years' illness. He was the son of Albert and Florence Torrenga, and was born in Holland on September 24, 1867, coming to this country with his parents when he was six months old.
On November 25, 1890, he married Miss Selia Vanderkleed, who survives. He was a past elder of the Christian Reformed Church.

Surviving, besides the widow are five daughters, Mrs Florence Dunnewold, of Indianapolis; Mrs George Koning, Mrs Charles Vanderweilen, Mrs Edward Bylama and Mrs Clarence Plantenga, of this city; one son, Leroy; two sisters, Mrs George Vanderkolk and Mrs William Vanderkleed, and three brothers, Richard, Meno and Peter, all of this city, and sixteen grandchildren.

Private funeral services were held from the residence Tuesday afternoon, followed by additional services from the Christian Reformed church, with Rev J M Ghysels officiating; burial in West Point Cemetery. (Lafayette, Indiana Newspaper, April 27, 1934)
