William served as a Private First Class & Gunner on B-24E #41-28530, 356th Bomb Squadron, 302nd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in New Castle County, Delaware prior to the war.

B-24E #41-28530 took off, with a crew of 8 and 4 instructors from Chatham Field, Georgia on a training mission over the Atlantic Ocean. For an unknown reason the B-24 exploded in mid-air and crashed into the sea off Jacksonville, Florida.

William was declared "Missing In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" in this crash during the war.

He had served in the Army for one year and one month at the time of his death.
