Albert Simons had an eventful 60 year architectural career in Charleston, SC, working in the fields of preservation, planning, teaching, and artwork, as well as a designer. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and did a short stint in the firm Todd, Simons and Todd before opening his own office with partner Samuel Lapham in 1920. In 1930 he was part of a commission to pioneer the first historic district in America. There are now over 800 districts across the United States. He also helped start the first Board of Architectural Review.

Among his designs are Memminger Auditorium, Doct Street Theater, and countless houses, additions, and alterations.
