Retired LPN II AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into eternal rest, after a long illness, Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Janie Freeman Crawford, 62, of Vintage Creek Apartments, 1924 North Leg Road. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from Gethsemane Baptist Church, 1485 Wrightsboro Road with Reverend Ronald Strong officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Crawford was baptized at Gethsemane Baptist Church in 1958 under the pastorage of Reverend Jacob C. Trowell. She sang in the Youth Choir, was a member of the Spirit of Gethsemane Club and served as secretary of the Usher Board for many years. She graduated from Lucy C. Laney High School in 1966, attended Paine College and graduated from Augusta Vocational School as a Practical Nurse. She was employed by University Hospital and retired in 2005 after thirty-one years of dedicated service as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny G. Crawford and father, Deacon Jerry H. Cannon. She is survived by her son, Frederick A. Lewis, Atlanta, GA; godson, Joey Williams, Beech Island, SC; a caring and devoted family: mother, Mrs. Mary Louise Freeman; sisters, Jerrolyn Freeman Hicks, Elaine Fields (Ronnie) O'Neal and Vanessa (King) Merriweather; brothers, Earl Freeman, Henry (Jacqueline) Freeman and Maurice Freeman; nieces, Jo Ester Hicks (Keith) White, Janetta Maddox Freeman, Constance Fields (John) Hamlett and LaShonda Freeman; nephew, Wesley Fields; uncle, Reverend John Freeman, South Ozone Park, NY; brother-in-laws, Robert (Lelor) Crawford and Roosevelt Crawford; and a host of relatives, friends and devoted church family.
