"The death of Mrs. Mary Jane York occurred at the Chase Memorial Hospital in New Berlin on November 19, 1945, following a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of West Edmeston. The Rev. Frank Venable, pastor, assisted by Rev. James Eldridge of the New Berlin Baptist Church, officiated, and burial was made in Brookfield cemetery. Mary Jane Chesebro was born in the town of Brookfield on Feb. 28, 1892, daughter of Marion and Sarah Russell Chesebro. Her early life was spent in Brookfield and West Edmeston, where she attended local schools. Her marriage to Alton W. York took place on Jan. 2, 1911. Mr. York died in 1942, and for the past year and a half she has resided in New Berlin. Mrs. York is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Sarah M. Burdick, of Pittsfield, and a son, Marion A. York, with the Armed Forces in the European area; a sister, Miss Emma Chesebro of New Berlin; two brothers, Lester Chesebro of Earlsville and Arthur Chesebro of Utica; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. York was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Edmeston and had a host of friends, who mourn her passing." ("Brookfield Courier," Thurs., Nov. 29, 1945)
