Walter Downes Scully, 90, former resident of Windemere Drive, died Sunday, July 22, 2007.

Born June 21, 1917, in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late John Leo and Katherine Marie Downes Scully.

He attended the University of Maryland and was a retired director of ordinary agencies for Liberty Life Insurance Co. He achieved his charter life underwriter, was an all-American race walker and was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels in Greenville for 19 years.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

He was predeceased by his wife, Annoda Tebbs Scully; sister, Katherine; and brother, John.

Surviving are his children, Eileen Michel and Don Potter of Greenville, Timothy and Judy Scully of Pickens, Walter D. Scully Jr. and Gena Scully, Stewart Weedon and Mary Ann Scully and Katherine Marie Scully, all of Greenville; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Darling, Amy Berry, Edward J. Harrington, Ashley Scully, Kevin Scully, Ryan Scully, Angela Scully, Timothy S. Scully, Thomas A. Scully and Casey Halterman; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

A Rosary will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary followed by visitation until 8:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends on Wednesday following the service at the home of his son, Walter Scully Jr., 400 Phillips Lane, Greer.
