Diana was born to parents Medford Thomas Dickerson (1878-1935) of Mississippi and Winnie Allie Dickerson (1897-1981) of La Porte, Texas. Dixie was born in Morgan’s Point and was the last of six children born to Allie Dickerson. Dixie’s father was a painter and a paper hanger. He and Allie married in Houston in 1916 and later moved to La Porte by to raise their family. Her father died when Dixie was six, and her mother worked as a practical nurse to support her family. Dianna had a chronic heart condition and died at age 18. At the time of her death, Dixie worked as a cashier at the movie .
