Funeral service for Mrs. Rita J. Russell Whitten, 79, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Laird Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Hodge and Rev. Rex Humphreys officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Mrs. Whitten passed away on March 23, 2010 in Nacogdoches. She was born on June 26, 1930 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Oran A. Russell and Ila Ruth Barron Russell. Rita was a member of First Christian Church of Nacogdoches. She retired from Tyson Foods after 33 years of employment as a clerk. Rita is survived by her husband of 57 years, Paul E. Whitten of Nacogdoches; one son, Russell Whitten and wife, Cheryl of Nacogdoches; one granddaughter, Brooke Stephenson and husband, John of Nacogdoches; great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Stephenson; great-grandson, Nolan Stephenson, both of Nacogdoches. Pallbearers will include Mike Shofner, Bobby Bennett, Richard Humphreys, Keith Hanks, Willard Birdwell and Patrick Bryan. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Bright, Fred Bright, Bill Early, Roger Dudley, Carl "Bubba" Owens and W.D. "Bill" Colwell.
