FIRST WOMAN TO INSPECT TUNNEL
Mrs. Morrison Deeply Interested in Work

Monticello, Sept. 13 - Mrs. Harriet Baker Morrison, who died on Tuesday afternoon, as noted in the Times-Press, would have been 84 years old in November. When a young girl she came to Monticello to live with her two sisters, Mrs. James B. Quinlan and Mrs. Towner, where she met James V. Morrison, who was studying law with General A. C. Niven. Mr. Morrison eventually went to the Albany law school and while there the law student and the Monticello girl were married. The ceremony was performed at Westport, Conn., and at that time she was 16 years old. From the marriage altar they went to Wurtsboro, where they made their home. Mr. Morrison died eleven years ago and since that time Mrs. Morrison has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Fred Weller, and for the past year has been in feeble health.

When the O. & W. was under construction both Mr. and Mrs. Morrison were very much interested in its completion. Mrs. Morrison had the distinction of being the first lady to travel from one approach to the other of the Bloomingburg tunnel and and the first lady to ride through the tunnel on the cars. The drill which made the first hole in the tunnel became the property of Mr. Morrison, and he treasured it as one of the most valuable of his keepsakes.

Three children were born to the Morrisons: Frank, of Salem, Ore.; Mrs. Edith Weller, of Wurtsboro; and Katherine Carpenter, of Union Hill, N.J. One sister, Mrs. Burton Lewis, of Bridgeport, Conn.; also survives.

Mrs. Morrison was a splendid woman. Her companionship with the man of her choice was most agreeable and together they made a beautiful home.
