"Borden
Mrs. Emeline Stephenson Northrup, whose death occurred Wednesday, May 6, was born in Vestal, Broome county, Oct. 15, 1827. Here she resided until Jan. 11, 1851, when she married George T. Northrup, who has been dead a number of years. Mr. and Mrs. Northrup began their married life in Borden, where the remainder of their lives was passed. Mrs. Northrup was one of a family of eight children, two sisters and one brother of which survive her, namely: Mrs. Jennie Thompson, of Hornellsville; Mrs. Mary Gibbs, of this place, and Asbury Stephenson, of Dunkirk, NY. She is also survived by two sons, Eugene and George Northrup, both of this place and an adopted son Francis Butler, of Elmira. During Mrs. Northrup's final illness, as well as during the many years of her life, she was a noble example of Christian patience and fortitude. She was a member of the M.E. Church of this place, but for the last few years had been unable to attend on account of failing health. The funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at the home and were conducted by Rev. Mr. Libby, of Painted Post. The love and esteem in which she was held by her neighbors and friends were attested by the number of people who gathered to pay her their last tribute of respect and by the beautiful floral offerings. The interment was in Elk Creek cemetery.
