He enlisted in the Army on August 10, 1943 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted as being employed in the manufacture of miscellaneous products and also as Single, without dependents.

Richard died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-24 stalled and crashed on approach for landing to Tonopah Army Airfield,
Nevada during the war.
