He was born March 18, 1940 in Galesburg, the son of Vergle L. and Edna M. George Hodge.
He married Joyce Ann Mills on Jan. 22, 1961, at First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. She survives of Galesburg.
Also surviving are daughter Katherine L. (Michael) Steele of Galesburg; son Scott L. Hodge of Slater, Iowa; grandchildren Michael Bradley Hodge, Katherine Rose Hodge, Dylan Scott Myler and Branden Cole Myler; and step-grandchildren Amber Steele and Tyson Steele. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Philip L. Hodge.
He was reared and educated in Williamsfield, graduating from Williamsfield High School in 1958.
He went to work at Willis Steel in 1958 and retired as a salesman on Dec. 23, 2003, after 45 years.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Galesburg Rifle Association.
He was a firearm enthusiast.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville. Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, in Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
