My Great-Grandmother

My great-grandmother was the daughter of William J. and Ada "Addie" Elizabeth Carter Coulter. She was the wife of Arthur Snoots, Gene Walker and Roger Allen, who died in 1988. She was the mother of Lawrence Snoots and of 2 baby daughters, grandmother of Lawrence and Barry Snoots and Carrie Browning, and great-grandmother of Jennifer, Jessica and David Snoots and Barry, Krystin and William Browning. She was also survived by 2 siblings, Mary Taylor and Lawrence Coulter, and many nieces and nephews.

She was always known to her grandkids and great-grandkids as "Gang". Eventually most everyone ended up knowing her as Gang.

Gang liked to work in her gardens. She had flowers and plants all the way around her backyard, along the driveway and up the front walk. She had a huge table inside always covered with all sorts of potted plants. A few times I helped her out in the garden, but I wasn't too good at it and one time I drenched her with the hose.

Gang had a hobby of collecting all sorts of things that had to do with owls. Owl knick-knacks and pictures were all over her house. Once I made her some owls out of pretzels that were glued to burlap, and she hung it right there in the living room. When ever I see an owl, I think of Gang.

Gang was always making things. She was good at all types of crafts. I have several blankets she made me and lots of ceramic things she made. She made me a bouquet of smiley daisies out of pipe cleaners and stryofoam!

Gang also like Garfield the cartoon cat. I remember her little stuffed Garfield that always sat on the table beside her easy-chair.

Gang always had lots of real pets too. Cats and dogs. I only remember her dogs Ginger (who had previously been my dog) and Susie.

Gang was always very outspoken and opinionated. Even in her last few years when she had Alzheimers, she'd still tell you just what she thought about something.

When I was a kid, my Dad used to take Gang around to "the country", Washington Co., MD, where she grew up. We'd go visit some of her nieces and nephews. In the car, she'd point out places where she did things when she was young. Talking to Gang was how I got interested in family history, though she didn't know it.
