The death occurred last Monday night in Calgary of Patrick James Nolan, K.C., one of the best known men in all Western Canada. The news was received here and elsewhere with profound sorrow and on every hand men spoke their regret at the loss of "Paddy" Nolan, one of the cleverest lawyers and kindest friends the majority of them have ever known. The cause of death was internal hemorrhage and Mr. Nolan had only been ill a week, the end coming quite suddenly. He was 48 years of age and had lived in Calgary since 1889. In 1892 he married Miss Mary Elizabeth Lee, a daughter of one of the earliest pioneers of Alberta. He is survived by the widow and one son, Harry, who is in his fourth year at the University of Alberta.

The funeral service was held at St. Mary's church, Calgary, on Wednesday morning and was one of the largest and most representative funeral gatherings ever seen in that city. The many splendid floral tributes sent by public bodies and private friends filled two carriages, and after the funeral the flowers were all sent to the Holy Cross Hospital. On Thursday the remains were brought to Banff, where Mr. Nolan and his family have been summer residents for some years, and interred in the cemetery, where Mrs. Nolan's father was buried last autumn, many residents attending to pay a last tribute of respect to their departed friend.

Note: The Canadian Dictionary of Canadian Biography (online) has a wonderful bio this colourful character, Patrick Nolan. Date of birth conflicts with cemetery records.
