Former Member Of Legislature Dies Suddenly

The Rev. Edwin M. Larason, 76, former member of the State Legislature and clerk of courts here two terms, died suddenly after midnight Friday in his home, 88 North Hazelwood Avenue.

He had been in failing health more than four years and retired last May. When he suffered a heart attack Thursday night, the resuscitator squad from Central Fire Station responded to a call at 1:08 a. m. Friday, but their efforts to revive Mr. Larason were futile.

Ordained in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, he engaged in the work 50 years, and was in charge of the circuit which included Jacksontown, Amsterdam, Mt. Olive, and Macedonia at one time and also of a circuit which covered Long Run, Pleasant Valley, and Pleasant View.

HE RESIDED in Jacksontown 14 years, where he also engaged in the operation of a grocery. In 1932, he went to Cincinnati where for 12 years he was state examiner out of the state auditors' office and municipal courts division.

When he became active in Democratic politics, he served as clerk of courts here two terms; one term in the state legislature; and was employed in the secretary of state office under the late W. D. Fulton. He returned to Newark in June, 1949.

Born July 24, 1873 in Bladensburg, he was the son of Oliver C. and Millametta (Mercer). His first wife Bertha F. Harter, whom he married Dec. 24, 1895, died Feb. 28, 1920.

SURVIVING ARE his widow, the former Grace Winona Wright to whom he was married March 5, 1942, and the following children: Mrs. Edwin Patterson, Mrs. Richard Elliott of Newark, Mrs. Jack Felumlee of Long Beach, Calif., Merrill C. Larason, Donald L. Larason of Newark, Raymon E. Larason and Harvey W. Larason of Long Beach, Calif., Oliver C. Larison of Mt. Liberty; also a step-daughter, Mrs. Frank Stokes of Dayton; also 10 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. W. V. Davis of Jacksontown. A daughter died in infancy, a son Edwin O. Larason in 1918, and a sister, Mrs. D. B. Bell is also deceased.

Mr. Larason was a past master of Newark Lodge, F&AM and a member of St. Luke's Commandery, Knights Templar.

The body was moved to Criss Brothers funeral home and later will be returned to the family home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
