The Idaho Statesman

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Clawson Abraham, 84, passed away Monday, March 17, 2003, at a Boise care center after a long courageous battle with Parkinson disease. He was born January 10, 1919 in Kanosh, Utah to Abinadi and Sarah Abraham.

He graduated from Fillmore High School and moved to Grass Valley, California to work in the gold mines with his brother, Sanford. He was drafted into the Army 8 months before Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to the combat engineers division and served in the Aleutian Islands, Hawaii, the Philippines, and was stationed in Okinawa when the war ended. After the war, Clawson returned home to Kanosh to work on the family farm and was called to serve in the Southwest Indian Mission, Gallup, New Mexico for the L.D.S. church.

From his experience in the Army, he became an operating engineer and worked on dams in California and on the Ox Bow and Brownlee Dams in Idaho. Clawson moved to Boise in 1959, with a Wynn's distributorship. It was here he met the love of his life, Gloria Tipton, and they were married November 14, 1959 in Boise. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity. He worked on the Dworshak Dam in Orofino, Idaho until it's completion and the family moved to Soda Springs, Idaho where he worked on the phosphate mine until he retired and moved back to Boise. Clawson was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings. He served in the Boise Temple for seven years until his illness forced him to retire.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Gloria Abraham, of Boise; son, Jeff Abraham, of Lemoore, California; daughter, Sara and her husband, Garth Dunford, of Salt Lake City, Utah; sister, Mildred Gardner, of Bountiful, Utah; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2003 at the 7th Ward, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4921 N. Mitchell. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Relyea Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cloverdale Cemetery. The family wishes to express appreciation to the caring staff of Capitol Care Center of Boise. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkinson Disease Foundation, 1055 N. Curtis, Boise, Idaho, 83706.
