He attended public school in Prince Ann County, Virginia. He served in the United States Army from 1943 through 1945. His duties took him to France and Germany.
Joshua professed Christ at an early age. After coming to Newark, New Jersey he met Marcolia F. Robertson and was united in holy matrimony by Rev. B. F. Johnson on June 23, 1951.
He united with the Metroplitan Baptist Church under the patorship of Rev. B. F. Johnson in July of 1951. He was a member of the Senior Choir Male Chorus,the Prayer Band and Sunday School. Joshua was a true and faithful servant in the Metroplotan Baptist Church for 39 years, until his health failed approximately two years ago.
He was a Long Shoremen from 1939 through 1975, and retired as a member in good standing of Local 1233.
He leaves to cherish fond memories of him his loving wife, Marcolia F. Holmes, and son, Willie T. Robertson, one Daughter -in-law, Sharon Robertson, one grandaughter Dorothy Denise Robertson, three grandsons, Willie Jr., Wayne and Martin Robertson, four great-grand children, two sisters, Leola Ladson, and Armenta Pope, five brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
