Marcella I. Holland Burks, 91, formerly of Frankfort, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009 in Chesterton, IN.

She was born April 17, 1918 in Frankfort, IN to Roy and Flossie (Meneely) Michael. She married Rutherford "Brick" Holland on September 18, 1935 who preceded her in death in 1969. She then married Charles Burks in November 1972 and he passed away in 2006.

Marcella spent her life devoted to music and her faith. A 1936 graduate of Frankfort High School, she was the choir director for the Hope United Methodist Church in Frankfort for many years. Her piano playing as an accompanist contributed to many weddings, funerals, service clubs, dance bands in addition to working with the Indiana State Junior Miss Program for 20 years. She also taught piano to many Frankfort residents throughout the years. Marcella continued to serve the Lord with her music in Pine Island, Florida moving there in 1972. In 2006 she moved to Chesterton to be closer to her family where she remained active in her music ministry.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert E. (Carolyn) Jones of Chesterton, IN Joyce Anita Holland of Ft. Wayne, IN; three grandchildren, 2 Step Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.

A memorial service in celebration of Marcella's life will be held at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Hope United Methodist Church in Frankfort.
