Robert N. Smith, 84, Tipton, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Tipton County on Jan. 13, 1924, to Glenn H. and Sarah (Hinkle) Smith. On Nov. 24, 1946, he married Virginia Longfellow, and she survives.
Robert had retired from farming. He was a member of East Union Christian Church, where he served as an elder and a deacon. He was a member of the Tipton County Historical Society.
Survivors besides his wife, Virginia, include one son, Greg Smith and wife Sandie, Muncie; two daughters, Sarah Floyd and husband Steve, Yorktown, and Anita Gunning and husband Tom, Elwood; four grandchildren, Andrea Wilson and husband Scott, Jason Gunning, Jennifer Drive and Ryan Smith; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jack A. Smith and wife Jane, Fort Myers, Fla.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William E. Smith.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home ,with the Rev. Rex Dunning presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Tipton. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
