Cameron N. Sherman, 84, died on Saturday, March 6, 2010.
He was born in Jamestown, N.Y., to William Sherman and Irene (Fellows) Sherman on April 19, 1925. Tthe family relocated to Millville when he was a child. Mr. Sherman's father was a butcher, thus earning him the nickname "Butch" by which he was known to all.
Upon joining the Army at age 18, Butch served in World War II as an MP with the Yankee Division, seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge and Siegfried Line. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
He retired from the Cumberland County Probation Department after 40 years of employment, and served as the treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church on Maurice River for more than 17 years.
Prior to his failing health, Butch enjoyed cards, bowling, softball and golf. He was quite social and was always ready with a quip or witty return, often singing and joking with his family.
Butch is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years Lois E. (Taylor); three daughters, Brenda Freitag (Chet Tuthill) of Glassboro, Marcia Sherman of Sewell and Sueann Robbins (Dan) of Coatesville, Pa.; granddaughters Rosanne Henderson, Dani and Cameron Robbins, and Jessica Tuthill; grandsons Christopher Freitag and Jonathan (Emily) Tuthill; great-grandson Cameron Tuthill; great-granddaughter Alexia Tuthill; and brother Roger W. Sherman.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Butch's funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 2104 E. Main St., Millville. The family will receive visitors from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park.
