Services for former Texas State Senator, H.P. Brelsford, were held at the First Methodist Church. All businesses in Eastland closed from 3-4pm for the services. The Eastland County Bar Association drafted appropriate resolutions on his death. Mr. Brelsford spend his boyhood in Illinois and attended Notre Dame University in Indiana where he received his A.B. degree in 1891. In 1894, he took his M.A degree in the same school. He came to Texas in 1892, where he married Marjorie Parvin in Eastland. Five children were born to this union, all boys. One son preceded them in death.
Senator Brelsford was one of the organizers of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce and was the second president of that organization. His administration sponsored the West Texas Chamber of Commerce's legislative bureau in Austin, which is still in existence. In an early day, he organized and was first lieutenant and acting Captain of the Ross Rifles in Eastland. He served in the Texas House of Representatives in the 28th and 29th sessions and was state senator from this district from 1913-1917. During World War I, he served as Eastland county food administrator; chair of the county draft board, and chair of the Liberty Loan committee for this congressional district. By appointment, he served three times as special justice of the second court of civil appeals at Fort Worth, and twice by appointment was special associate justice of the supreme court of Texas. He served as a member of the state Democratic executive committee; was delegate to the national Democratic Convention in Denver in 1908 and 20 years later was delegate to the Democratic convention in Houston. He served many years as president of Eastland banking institutions and as chair of their board of directors. Senator Brelsford with a number of other citizens built Lake Eastland, one mile north of the city of Eastland. Lane he owned in the vicinity of Eastland became valuable when oil was discovered on it. The golf links of the Eastland Golf and Country club are located on land belonging to Senator Brelsford.
Survived by his wife; four sons - Harry Brelsford, Homer Brelsford, Bryan Brelsford, Gordon Brelsford; one brother - Dr. Guy Brelsford; one nephew - Joseph A. Pierson; 11 grandchildren.
