He was the son of John F Williams and Elizabeth Ester Shepard. Moved with his family from Georgia to Holmes, Mississippi at about the age of 12. Later he was married to Mariah Jane Witherspoon. He moved his family to Rusk, Texas and served as Sheriff of Cherokee County for 8 years. In 1858 he returned to Mississippi and settled in the vicinity of Harttown. During the Civil War he served as a Second Lieutenant in Company K, Attala County. He continued serving his community as magistrate until January 1, 1892.
He died at his home.
