Honor Jim Tran on 85th Birthday GRAFTON – The eighty-fifth birthday of Jim Tran was celebrated with
a party arranged by his daughter, Winifred, and Mrs. Edith Howard. His nieces and nephews and their families
attended, totaling 44. / An evening dinner was served in the dining room of the Methodist church which was
decorated, as were the tables, with garden flowers given by neighbors and friends. The Rev. Leland Howard
gave the invocation and also a poem of tribute to the honored guest written by Mrs. Edith Howard. Slides
were shown by Walter Cox of scenes taken on western trips. / After the dinner, guests went to the home of
the honored guest for a social evening on the lawn after which refreshments including a birthday cake were
served. / Attending the gathering were Mr. and Mrs. Morris Tran and children and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cox
of Oberlin, Mr. and Mrs. John Spieth of Medina, the Rev. and Mrs. Leland Howard and family and Mrs. and
Mrs. Stanley Howard and children of Elyria, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Howard and family and Mrs. and Mrs. Carl
Pierce and family of LaGrange and Mrs. and Mrs. Mark Tran and children of Grafton. / Mr. Tran was born
on Wheeler road and spent all of his life in Grafton and vicinity. Formerly engaged in farming, before his
retirement he was associated wth his brother-in-law, Frank Howard, in the grocery business for more than 15
